FORQUERAY UNCHAINED

DUO CONCERT WITH JADRAN DUNCUMB AND ANDRÉ LISLEVAND

The viol, lute and baroque guitar were among the most popular instruments fo experienced amateurs and professionals in the 16th and 18th centuries. There is an enormous and varied repertoire in which  the great composers Marin Marais (1656-1728) and Antoine Forqueray (1672-1745) were the most popular. While Marais was nicknamed "The Angel" for his pleasant and elegant nature and manners, Forqueray was called "The Devil" with his colourful temperament and virtuosity. Jadran Duncumb and Andre Lislevand have made a selection of the most fascinating pieces in the repertoire for this programme: small character pieces collected in suites in the same key offer everything from beautiful melancholy, inventive elegance and diabolical virtuosity. Their recording of this programme for Arcana was awarded a Diapason Decouverte.
